WP1 – Selective collection of urban biowaste: pilot experience
This work package includes the preparation and implementation of the pilot experience of selective collection of urban biowaste that will be valorised in the waste management plant in Murcia.
WP2 – Protein conversion using biogas and methanotrophic bacteria
The goal of this WP is to scale-up the production of protein from methanotrophic bacteria fed by upgraded biogas (biomethane).
WP3- Conversion of urban biowaste to protein via Black Soldier Fly larvae
The biowaste collected (WP1) will be stabilised in an anaerobic digester, and the resulting dried digestate will feed Black Soldier Fly (BSF) larvae, which will be then used for protein production. This work package focusses on the installation of a DEMO plant for BSF conversion into protein in the waste treatment plant in Murcia.
WP4 – Nutrients recovery from urban biowaste
The aqueous rejection after digestate dewatering contains valuable nutrients for enhancing soil fertility. This WP comprises the design, construction and validation of a pilot plant for phosphorous and nitrogen recovery that will be used to formulate bio-based fertilisers.
WP5 – End-consumer products validation
In this WP, the three end-products obtained within WP2 (novel ingredients from methanotrophic bacteria), WP3 (insect-derived protein) and WP4 (bio-based fertilisers) will be evaluated for their future use by industrial players.
WP6- Future large-scale plants
All the information generated and collected will be gathered to elaborate guidelines and recommendations for future large-scale projects of biowaste valorisation.
WP7 – Exploitation & Results
This WP is aimed to create new business and organisational models for the valorisation of biowaste in urban contexts. Both academic and industrial pathways for VALUEWASTE results exploitation will be also identified.
WP8 – Evaluate social acceptance
The goal is to increase knowledge and understanding of citizens’ opinion towards biowaste valorisation, as well as to evaluate consumers’ take up and acceptance of biowaste-derived products.
WP9 – Regulatory framework, EU policy and standardisation
The consortium will identify the applicable regulations, policies and standards, to assure compatibility with the existing legal framework.
WP10 – Dissemination and Communication
VALUEWASTE project itself and results will be communicated and disseminated to a wide segment of audience: citizens, academics, industry, policy makers, etc.
WP11 – Ethics Requirements
The VALUEWASTE consortium will assure and monitor that the project implementation meets the ethics-related requirements (i.e. personnel data protection, environment protection, etc).
WP12 – Risks and Overall Project Management
This WP gathers all the activities that will ensure the proper development of the project, according to the objectives, work plan and scheduled milestones.
